Youth is perceived as the ‘greenery’ of our lives. Every aspect of youth suggests its easy affiliation with the green colour. The zest and the zeal of youth, the passion of one’s life at its prime, the eagerness to do everything… all put forward the freshness, the energy and the ‘green’ factor of our lives.
However, if I were given the canvas of life and had to paint the colour of youth, I would not paint it green. I would rather paint it white. When I was young, the white colour had always been at the center of my imagination. It looks empty – you may call it clean or pure – but it is what it is. However, the beauty of the colour is that it is the home to all colours. Red, blue, green, indigo… name any colour and its already in there! That to me is ‘youth’. It is the home to all colours of life. It embraces the green ambitions, the yellow jealousies, the red anger, the black sorrows, the pink sweetness… and all other colours that complete youth in all its assorted beauty.
At times I wish I could go back and re-live all the colours of my youth with the passion I never had then. I now realize that youth can’t be coloured, for it already has all the colours in it.
Yes, you missed your youth, so do most of us! Keep the past behind. Move on!
